Scholarship Alert: The 2017 NNPC/SNEPCo

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Corporation(NNPC) hereby invites applications from qualified Nigerian students for the 2017 NNPC/SNEPCo National University Scholarship Programme. The programme aims to promote academic excellence and improve the skills of  young Nigerians. It provides yearly grant to the successful  applicants from their second year to the completion of their degree programme.

Eligible students studying the underlisted courses in Nigerian Universities are invited to submit an electronic application on https://www.nnpc-snepco-scholarship.shell.com

Mathematics/Applied mathematics

WHO CAN APPLY
Applicany must:
-Be a citizen of Nigeria
-Currently be in their second year of full time study in a Nigerian University
-Have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 in a 5-grade system
-Not a beneficiary of any other schorlarship(National or International)

HOW TO APPLY
-Every applicant should have a valid personal email account
-Candidates who meet the above eligibility criteria should apply at https://www.nnpc-snepco-scholarship.shell.com
to provide the required personal and educational details and upload scanned copies of the following:
1.A recent passport photograph in jpeg format, and not more than 200kb;
2.Admission letter;
3.UTME result;
4.O level result and A level/OND/NCE results as applicable;
5.Letter of identification from State of Origin indicating the local government of origin;
6.100level results.

DEADLINE
-Applications should be submitted online on or before 1st of September,2017.
-Examination Date:16th September, 2017

Facts:Worlds quickest laser pulse can track electrons in slow motion

The race to produce ever-faster laser pulses has set a new record, and it could lead to breakthroughs in our understanding of atom-level physics. A team at ETH Zurich has shortened an X-ray pulse to just 43 attoseconds (10-18 seconds), which is quick enough that you can observe electrons moving in slow motion. That, in turn, makes it realistic to study extremely fast processes, such as the formation of chemical bonds or the creation of electricity in solar cells. The system uses a mid-infrared laser to generate "soft" X-ray pulses with an extremely large spectral bandwidth. Previous attosecond-level pulses revolved around titanium-sapphire lasers, which limited the potential photon energy and effectively ruled out studying large chunks of the periodic table. Using a combination of the biblical text and an ancient Egyptian text, the researchers were then able to refine the dates of the Egyptian pharaohs, in particular the dates of the reign of Ramesses the Great.
